Following Monday’s 34-23 win over the San Diego Chargers, the Denver Broncos will have their bye week. But they are hesitant to put football on the back burner for a weekend after having a surprising 6-0 start as they are mindful of keeping their momentum after building a 3 1/2 -game lead over the Chargers in the AFC West.
Broncos were viewed as nothing more than an entertaining soap opera when new coach Josh McDaniels started his tenure in Denver by quarreling with his Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler, who was now playing in the Chicago Bears jersey. Before long the coach suspended talented receiver Brandon Marshall for insubordination in training camp. But now the coach proves to people his wisdom with moving the Broncos to 6-0, for the fifth time in franchise history.
Quarterback Kyle Orton, veteran safety Brian Dawkins and special teams’ wide receiver Eddie Royal-all the player McDaniels has kept in the team have been proved no less brilliant than those the coach has given up. And the team will not allow complacency to creep in during the off week for they understand there is still a long way to go.

Broncos WR Marshall fully in practice but unclear for preseason debut
The Denver Broncos Tuesday practice was the team’s first workout since last Saturday’s exhibition game against the Seattle Seahawks. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall was fully involved in the practice; however, Coach Josh McDaniels still did not feel like giving him confirmed status on Sunday’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears.
McDaniels said it was too early to say whether Marshall would make his debut in Sunday’s game even if the Bears have been ready to have former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler play in the exhibition.
“We’ll find out as we go through the week,” McDaniels said. “When the players are ready to play, they’ll play.”
Having conflict with McDaniels, Marshall had missed majority of Broncos practices this offseason. The Pro Bowl receiver has spent his time on seeking a new contract and asking to be traded after the Broncos did not act on the contract request. He did not take part in any of the Broncos preseason games yet, missing exhibition opener against San Francisco with an injury and being kept out of the Seattle exhibition.
The Broncos put Marshall on the latest depth chart as a No. 1 receiver, however, they also limited him largely to scout team duties after Marshall told reporters that he had not been up to speed on the new playbook. So it is really hard to say whether Marshall has been ready for his preseason debut while McDaniels said that the team is “getting ready to play the season.”
