NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will take action on Giants WR Plaxico Burress before the legal process runs its course and before the start of the 2009 season.
Burress is facing a felony weapons charge after he accidently shot himself with an unlisenced handgun last fall, and is awaiting trial. The Giants suspended Burress for the final four games of the 2008 regular season and eventually released him this spring.
A recent preliminary hearing regarding the charges was adjourned until Sept. 23, and the actual trial might not start until after the 2009 season. That led Burress’ legal team and agent to say they believe the receiver would be available to play. However, Goodell’s decision to move now could throw a wrench into Burress’ immediate future plans.

Seahawks coach and NFL commissioner will climb Mount Rainier for charity
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora will climb up the 14,411-foot Mount Rainier with mountaineering great Ed Viesturs on July 5.
Viesturs is the only American to summit all 14 of the world's 26,000-plus-foot peaks without supplemental oxygen. Seahawks chief executive officer Tod Leiweke, United Way CEO Jon Fine and climbing guide Peter Whittaker will also join the climbing group.
The climb wil benefit the United Way of King County, Washington, which raised donation emergency food system in King County, through the activity of climbing the most heavily glaciered peak in the contiguous United States.
