Giants DE Umeniyora wants his starting job back

The New York Giants defensive end Osi Umeniyora is doing something childish to get his starting job back. He threatened the Giants that he would retire if they are to keep him a reserve instead of a starter.

He told radio station WFAN that he’ll "stop playing football" before he goes back to bench. Well the Giants did sit him down during last season, but they did so simply because of the player’s subpar performance. Saying that "I’m not going to be a backup player, I can promise you that," Umenyiora sounds jealous while guessing he had been unwelcomed among the Texans as the team kept giving playing time to other players “no matter how they are playing”.

"(F)or certain people, no matter what happens, they’ll never take them out of the lineup, you understand what I mean?"

As the Giants still have no plans to trade or release Umenyiora, I bet the disappointing defensive end will continue wearing his Giants jersey for the 2010 season for any possible chance to play in a game.

Giants signed DB Fryar to practice squad

Of course this Fryar does not refer to the standout wide receiver retiring after 2000 season, but he is mentioned as because he is the son of the former NFL standout Irving Fryar. As a rookie free agent, now London Fryar put on New York Giants jersey to start a career like his father’s.

He did not start his NFL career in good way. Being signed as a rookie free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs on May 8, he was waived four months later. As a native of Jobstown, N.J., he originally played in 42 games with 34 starts at Western Michigan. He was chosen by the Giants to take the place of fellow defensive back Vince Anderson, who was placed on the practice squad-injured list.

Irving Fryar spent seventeen seasons with NFL. He played as a wide receiver for four teams during the 17 years: with the New England Patriots from 1984-1992, with the Miami Dolphins from 1193 to 1995, for Philadelphia Eagles from 1996 to 1998 and he joined Washington Redskins in 1999 and retired there.
