49ers won over Broncos by 17-16

For the fans out of the field, it was just so exciting to see the preseason opener game between the 49ers and the Broncos. The 49ers won with a nearthing of 17-16.

On the Broncos side, Kyle Orton threw interceptions in his first three series during a disastrous debut. After he made the night’s third first-half pick, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Brit Miller. Chris Simms nearly led Denver to victory with a big second half. He hit Kenny McKinley on a 52-yard TD pass with 2:01 left after the 49ers was put up 17-10 by Miller’s second TD on a 40-yard reception from Damon Huard. However, he did not manage to help the Broncos make the 2-point conversion.

One more special thing on that night is the return to Candlestick Park of Mike Nolan, who was former 49ers coach and works as Denver’s defensive coordinator now.
